Typographic portraits of Jheronimus Bosch, Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt. Letterheads are made by rubbing down dry transfer letters on paper. One by one. Smits uses piles of 1970's/80's Letraset and Mecanorma sheets. The personal treasure he inherited from his father's graphic design studio.
Handmade limited edition etches, silkscreens and woodcuts. But also riso prints, small prints and the Gold print series, that comes in many colours. Show me!
Huub Smits (NL, Nijmegen, 1967) is an independent photo- and typographic artist. Grows up in an environment full of inspirational letter shapes. Studies Industrial Design for a year followed by Graphic Design (Art Academy ’s-Hertogenbosch). After working in this industry he starts teaching. Shoots mainly interiors nowadays. There's an urge in him to do autonomous projects. "Product Portraits of Dutch Design" and cityscapes, more recent. Now his old "letterlust" drives him.
